Order management software for restaurants and food delivery

Custom software development, Restaurant ordering, Menu management, Payment integration, Delivery tracking, POS and kitchen workflows, Reports and inventory

  • Industry: Restaurants and cafes
  • Sweden Location: Sweden
  • Delivery time: 16 weeks
  • Technologies: Python, fastapi
4+ months

This client’s restaurant group spends time coordinating menus, orders, payments, preparation and delivery across separate channels. The solution is order management software for restaurants: it takes in menu, customer and order information and gives restaurant staff one place to process orders. Delivery personnel and managers use the same system to track fulfillment and review operations. Customers browse menus, place orders and follow their progress online.

Summary

Problem

The restaurant group needs to replace fragmented ordering and fulfillment processes with centralized software.

Solution

The solution became one order management system for menus, payments, restaurant operations, delivery and reports.

Result

The software is made to reduce manual coordination and the time spent moving order information between teams and tools.

Client story

The client is a restaurant group from Sweden. It manages restaurant operations across menus, customer orders and delivery.

Menu details, prices, offers and availability need to stay clear for customers and staff. The system also covers stock, sales and delivery information for operations.

The request was simple: provide real-time order, preparation and delivery tracking; connect secure digital payments; offer customer ordering on Android and iOS; and show restaurant and menu information clearly.

The solution was shaped as a modular application with customer ordering, restaurant and kitchen operations. Delivery management and payments were given dedicated areas.

Reporting and inventory completed the operations view.

The client asked for

  1. Track order, preparation and delivery status in real time
  2. Accept cards, wallets, UPI and local payment methods
  3. Offer Android, iOS and responsive web ordering
  4. Show restaurants, menus, prices, offers and availability

Why ready-made software did not fit

Ready-made food-delivery products cover menus, marketplaces and embedded ordering, but their descriptions do not combine the client’s restaurant operations, inventory and delivery needs in one tailored system. The client also needed separate work areas for customers, restaurant staff and delivery partners. The solution included the specific connections required by the operation.

Project overview

The solution was designed around restaurant profiles, menus, prices, offers and availability managed in one application.

To handle customer ordering, Android and iOS applications were provided alongside responsive web and web administration interfaces. Customers browse menus, add items to a cart and follow order progress.

Restaurant staff see current orders, item-level details and order types in a status board. Preparation, takeaway and delivery information stay visible to the team responsible for fulfillment.

Delivery personnel receive assigned delivery information, routes and status controls in a dedicated dashboard. Payment gateways, POS platforms, kitchen or thermal printers, maps and delivery services can connect where required.

Special attention was paid to reporting and stock information. Operations managers review orders, sales and deliveries, with stock levels, analytics and exportable report data available in the reporting area.

The result

Menus give customers a clear start to ordering

The menu and restaurant catalogue puts restaurant information, menu items, prices, offers and availability together before an order is placed. Customers can browse categories, review item descriptions and add items to a cart.

The screen keeps customer-facing menu content connected to restaurant profiles and menu management, so the order begins with the same information used by the restaurant team.

How it works

  1. The application displays restaurant profiles and menu categories.
  2. Menu item cards show descriptions, prices, offers and availability.
  3. The catalogue provides add-to-cart controls for the displayed items.
  • Restaurant profiles
  • Menu categories and item cards
  • Prices, offers and availability

Could ready-made systems do the job?

Before the design, the task was compared with ready-made products by their own descriptions.

Ready-made food-delivery products cover important parts of the task, including menus, online ordering and delivery operations. A ready-made product is enough when the business needs only one of those parts.

This restaurant group needed its own software because customer, restaurant and delivery workflows had to work together with payment, reporting and inventory needs.

In the end

In the end, the solution was made to take manual coordination out of the path from a customer menu and order to restaurant fulfillment, delivery and reporting.
